The Board of Commissioners will host an NCDOT Public Meeting on Thursday, June 18th, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at which a quorum will be present. Project Overview
R-5909 is a proposed 1.19-mile roadway project on SR 1605 (East Main Street) in Yadkinville, Yadkin County. The project is situated on SR 1605 (East Main Street) between U.S. 601 and SR 1765 (Unifi Industrial Drive) and includes downtown commercial properties near U.S. 601 and residential and industrial properties to the east of the project corridor.
The primary need for the proposed project is to increase mobility and improve safety by modernizing the roadway. The primary purpose of the proposed project is to improve the regional transportation network efficiency and upgrade pedestrian facilities on East Main Street.
Project Highlights
The proposed project will modernize East Main Street and will include a combination of two-lane (one lane in each direction) and three-lane (one lane in each direction with a center turn lane) configurations. The downtown portion of the project will retain the existing lane configuration with on-street parking on both sides. The three-lane configuration will be incorporated from Van Buren Street to Unifi Industrial Drive. Sidewalks will be included on both sides of the roadway for the full project length.
Project History
The project was originally identified in the Yadkinville, NC 2011 Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP) and was noted as an area in need of improvement.
