What, Why, When?

What is an Active Transportation Plan (ATP)?

An Active Transportation Plan or ATP is a framework that guides the development of non-motorized (pedestrian and bicycle) facilities in an area through overarching strategies and location-specific recommendations. Go Yadkinville assesses existing shared-use facilities, identifies gaps in the network, and proposes infrastructure, policy, and programmatic improvements.

Why is Yadkinville doing an ATP?

For decades, Yadkinville has worked to improve quality of life for residents, economic opportunity for businesses, and road user experience for visitors through intentional land use and transportation planning. The Town was successful in securing a grant through the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) Integrated Mobility Division (IMD) that is funding 95% of this plan.  To learn more about that division, check out their website here- NCDOT IMD Website

The ATP will build upon this foundation, bringing planned facilities forward and identifying new opportunities to connect with regional networks.

When will the ATP be published?

The ATP is expected to be complete in December 2026.
